“Blessed is he who plants trees under whose shade he will never sit.” (Indian Proverb)

There have been so many wonderful new additions to downtown recently, it's hard to keep up with it all! Our most recent addition is thanks to the Ripley County Community Foundation Flora Fund, established by Batesville visionary Dorothy L Cameron. Although Dorothy left Batesville to do some amazing things, she never lost the love for her hometown and the community that gave her roots, while encouraging her to use her wings. She had fond memories of climbing trees, riding horses in local pastures, and reading a good book in the shade as a child. She wanted to share her love of trees with Batesville and created the Flora Fund to encourage the City of Batesville to increase its tree canopy. You can see her efforts grow by visiting the public pool, enjoying a book in the outdoor reading space at the Library, at Liberty Park...and now in downtown. Dorothy passed away in 2020, but her legacy lives on in this gift to her beloved community.
