The Batesville track and field teams competed in the Hoosier State Relays at the Gladstein Fieldhouse at Indiana University Saturday. This indoor state meet was separated into two classes and Batesville competed in the 1A-3A. Batesville took 29 athletes to the meet, qualifying in 12 events.
In four of those, the Dogs had finishers on the podium (top 8). The girls 4x800 meter relay placed 5th: Megan Allgeier, Kaylynn Bedel, Lily Pinckley, Kaylie Raver. Taking 7th were the boys 4x400 team of Eli Pierson, Ean Loichinger, Vonley Hund and Benjamin Moster and boys medley team of Loichinger, Hund, Daren Smith and Moster. Claiming 8th was the girls medley squad of Raver, Bedel, Allgeier and Katie Olsen.
Other relays racing were boys 4x800 (Will Nuhring, Kyler Daulton, Jake Chapman, Isaac Trossman), girls 4x400 (Olsen, Cora Deputy, Ella Moster, Madelyn Pohlman) and girls 4x200 (Lily Meyer, Lizzy Nobbe, Moster, Pohlman). Deacon Hamilton ran 60 hurdles, Pinckley and Chapman the 3200, Alex Murphy pole vaulted, and Veronica King threw shot put.
March 11 highlights at Whiteland: boys medley relay 2nd place (11:23.12); girls medley 5th (13:31.19); boys 4x400 relay 5th (3:43.23); Pinckley 6th in 3200-meter run (12:22.27); Murphy tied for 9th in pole vault (11 feet); girls 4x400 10th (4:33.41); Chapman 10th in 3200 (10:34.98); Deputy 12th-place tie in high jump (4-ft.-4-in); King 15th in shot put (29-11); Hudson Kohlman tied for 15th in high jump (5-4); Nobbe 18th in long jump (13-8).
BHS opens outdoors at home April 7 against Greensburg. “It should be an exciting season!” said coach Lisa Gausman.
