Batesville cross country captured both Ripley County trophies at Milan Sept. 2. The boys had a tidy 21 and the girls even better at 19. Each team placed 6 on the all-county team, including MVPs Ean Loichinger (16:53), senior, and freshman Kaylynn Bedel (20:16). Benjamin Moster (2nd), Daren Smith (4th), Kyler Daulton (6th), Will Nuhring (8th) and Jake Chapman (9th; personal best), along with Lily Pinckley (3rd), Megan Allgeier (4th), Ava Hanson (5th), Maria Lopez (6th) and Madison Rahschulte (9th) all had county ribbons. Eli Loichinger and Katie Olsen just missed the top 10.
Benjamin Adams, Isabel Raab and Alyssa Linville added career bests.
A low-humidity morning greeted BHS at the East Central Invitational Saturday, resulting in overall good times and two more wins in the big school division. The boys scored 28 to Hagerstown’s 51.
Ean Loichinger won the boys race with a season-best 16:48 and Moster was runner-up (season-best 16:54). Smith was 3rd (season-best 17:37). Daulton had another season best with 18:24. Chapman had another personal mark, placing 14th. Eli Loichinger took 17th and Adams ran a personal best for 25th.
The girls just got by the hosts, 25-31. Bedel’s personal best of 19:58 couldn’t quite catch EC’s Rachel Campbell for the win. Pinckley was 4th, Allgeier 5th, Hanson 6th , Lopez 8th, Rahschulte 16th and Olsen 19th, each running season bests.
On the JV side, the girls had six runners in the top 15. Jen Dodge was 3rd, Ella Moster 4th, Raab 5th, Jada Eisert 8th, Linville 9th and Megan Batta 14th.
The Ben Davis Invitational is Saturday.
