BATESVILLE –Seeing their intra-county rivals for the first time in two seasons May 5, the Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters had a top-heavy 4-1 victory over the Franklin County Lady Wildcats on the Batesville High School courts.
The first four positions for the designated home team skated past their counterparts in a relatively quick manner, with the top two singles matches ending within seconds of each other for OA’s decisive team points.
Oldenburg and coach Mark Wilder gained their first point of the night when Emma Back and Evelyn Storms finished off Grace Roth and Rae Ertel on the No. 1 doubles court, 6-0, 6-1.
The next two finals would clinch the match for the Twisters. At No. 1 singles, Teresa Wanstrath finished strong to win the second set over FC’s Allie Routh in shutout fashion (6-0) after taking the opening set 6-1. A split second later, Mimi Wilder was walking off the No. 2 court following a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Elise Klei.
Alyssa Wanstrath then eventually overcame Kacie Williams at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3. The visiting Wildcats and coach Katrina Huerkamp would fend off the shutout loss by capturing the No. 2 doubles match; Kaylin Knapp and Nicole Mears defeated Isabel Price and Mary Hunter by a 7-5, 3-6, 10-3 (super tiebreak) decision.

The guests had the edge in junior varsity play. Halee Barker and Katherine Apsley defeated Lana Lischkge and Mia Keller in doubles, 8-2, while Regan Barker and Lola Mann beat Jordan Hardig and Kloie Lehman in pairs, 8-1. OA’s Evie Vanderpohl won an 8-2 singles pro set over Chloe Cowen.
Twister tennis headed to Milan two nights earlier. After being swept for the first time over the weekend (at Center Grove), the Twisters did some sweeping themselves as they beat Milan 5-0. Coach Wilder said the night’s real story was senior Mia Keller of OA taking on sister Margot Keller of Milan in a reserve singles match. Mia won the set 6-2.
Meanwhile, in varsity, Oldenburg won each match in the minimum of sets. Hunter/Price defeated Ariel Haessig and Alyssa Phelps on the No. 2 doubles court, 6-0, 6-1. The other doubles saw Storms/Back dominate Delaney Bushhorn and Riley Clark, 6-0, 6-1. T. Wanstrath knocked off Maitri Patel (6-0, 6-2), Wilder cruised by Karley Bushhorn (6-0, 6-1) and A. Wanstrath got past Ava Honnert (6-0, 6-1).
Other JV action saw  Vanderpohl and Lehman defeat Isabel Kurmen and Juliegh Haffey, 8-4, while Lischkge and Hardig fell 8-2 to Kayla Walke and Ellie Knechy.
The Twisters improved their record to 12-1 and will host Madison Shawe Thursday.
